A southern plant was experiencing pinhole leaks and thinning pipe along a horizontal line coming off a 14" header on an atmospheric tower 172' above the deck.

The line also contained three, eight-inch relief valves with veritical vent stacks.

Service for the line was Naphtha (30 psi, 200°F) with a high benzene concentration.

Team was called onsite to assess the leaks. Access to the leaks was by barrel ladder. Utilizing protective gear, Team technicians measured the leaking area and forwarded the information to Team engineers.

Team engineers determined the leaks could be safely sealed with a specially designed radius patch/perimeter seal utilizing Team strongback clamps.

(NOTE: Plants utilizing Team's strong back clamps in similar situations sometimes find during turnarounds that completely severed lines have been held in place by these strong back clamps, and that Team's perimeter seals have kept any leaks from occurring.)

After intense safety meetings with plant personnel, the customer agreed to the repair.

The radius patch and perimeter seals, designed to ISO 9001 standards by Team engineers and manufactured by Team to securely seal around the relief valves and vent stacks, was shipped to the job site.

Once there, safety became the main concern. A crane with a man basket was positioned outside the guardrail at the 172' level. Team technicians donned full face air support respirators with emergency egress packs and full fire fighter bunker gear.

The plant blanketed the area with a steam purge. The seal fit perfectly and stopped the leaks. The customer thanked Team.
