Special Team Enclosure Successfully Seals 8-Foot Run Of Thinning Pipe Containing Two 90° Radiuses Plus Valve Ends

A midwestern plant checking an HF and propane line found an 8-foot section to be thinning.

Rather than chance a leak, plant engineers called Team to see if an enclosure could be designed and built to seal the pipe.

Team technicians began the measurements. The suspect line came off a 12" pipeline for approximately two feet, then made a 90° radius and continued five more feet into a valve end flange. Here the line made another 90° radius up for approximately 1-1/2 feet into another valve end.

Team engineers performed the calculations and determined the line could be sealed with an 8' enclosure, and that supports could be utilized to offset its weight. Safety meetings were held with the customer, and the customer agreed to complete the project.

The enclosure was designed, manufactured, and shipped to the site by Team's ISO 9001 engineering and manufacturing center. With one technician working in a man-basket 50' above the ground, and the other from scaffolding, the enclosure was installed.

It fit perfectly.

Safety gear for the project included full-face air support respirators with bunker gear. Fire hoses were trained on the area throughout the project.

The customer thanked Team for a job well done.
